Project Introduction:
The Triangle to Square activity involves a set of cards, each showing a two-colored triangle. The objective is to arrange these triangular cards in a way that forms a perfect square. Through this hands-on task, students will gain insights into symmetry, shape manipulation, and the importance of geometric principles. The activity encourages critical thinking and creativity as students experiment with different arrangements to achieve the desired outcome. This project enhances both spatial reasoning and geometric knowledge, offering a fun and educational way to explore the world of shapes.
The Secret of the Magic Count
Project Objective:
To investigate how mathematical patterns and principles of probability can be applied to create the illusion of magic. Students will gain an understanding of how deterministic sequences and convergence enable the prediction of outcomes, even in situations that appear to involve randomness.
Project Information: The Secret of the Magic Count
The Trick: "The Secret of the Magic Count" is a card trick blending counting and patterns. Players select and remember a card from a shuffled set. The performer then forms four piles using special counting rules, which always lead to the chosen card. This demonstrates how numbers and probability can create an illusion of magic.
How it Works (The Math): This trick relies on a mathematical pattern. Despite shuffling, specific counting rules cause numerical sequences to converge to the same card. Both performer and participant typically arrive at the identical card. What appears magical is, in fact, the predictable outcome of mathematics and probability.
I SPY – Math Challenge!

Math Bingo Game

Objective of the Project:
To explore how the game Bingo connects to important mathematical concepts such as probability, statistics, number patterns; and combinatorics.
The project aims to demonstrate how simple games can illustrate deeper mathematical ideas in a fun and engaging way.Project Introduction
Bingo is a probability-based number game in which each player has a card of randomly arranged numbers. As numbers are drawn, players mark their cards in hopes of completing a specific pattern first. Because the game relies heavily on randomness and patterns. It provides an excellent foundation for studying:
• Probability (chance of a number being called)
• Statistics (frequency of numbers, expected outcomes)
• Combinatorics (number of possible
Bingo cards)
• Patterns and sequences
• Randomness and fairness in games
This project investigates how these concepts appear naturally in Bingo and how mathematics can be used to analyze strategies, fairness, and outcomes.
Mathematical Concepts Involved
1. Probability Chance of a number being drawn from a set (e.g. 1-78).
2. Probability of achisving a line, four corners, or full card
3. Combinatorics Total number of possible Bingo card arrangements
4. Patterns
Arrangement of numbers on traditional Bingo cards (B-IN G-O columns follow number ranges:
B = 1-15, 1= 16-30, etc.)
Conclusion
Bingo is more than a game - it's a practical demonstration of mathematical ideas that show many ways to solve problem.
